CDR to develop “CDR IMAGING” w/new faculty/technology

The University of Kansas’s Center for Design Research has recently been experimenting with a SpheroCam system from Spheron-VR AG, Germany. Spheron-VR AG are known globally as pioneers in HDR (High Dynamic Range) camera technology and experts in visual content management software.

The 32-bit HDR camera system is capable of producing seamless HDR images for Computer Generated Imagery (CGI) work (such as the Ford Fusion example below) together with measurement data which can be utilized in both forensic / crime scene documentation and infrastructure documentation (CDR infrastructure case study also shown).

The CDR based Spheron system also features the Spheron ScanLight system, which allows scanning in pitch black locations, using the fully portable, battery powered equipment.

The technology and opportunities came with our new Associate Professor Huw Thomas. Prof. Thomas has used and gained expert knowledge of the system at his former faculty position in the UK, and is now our faculty member in Industrial Design.

The CDR will now begin to build an awareness of Prof. Thomas and the Spheron system to entities both internal/external to KU that will have needs for its unique applications.
